suPAR overview
suPAR, the Chinese full name is soluble urokinase-type plasminogen activator receptor, is a circulating factor that can activate β3 integrin in podocytes, leading to foot process fusion and glomerular barrier destruction, causing proteinuria, and is one of the important pathogenic factors in the pathogenesis of FSGS.

diagnostic value
Plasma suPAR levels were significantly elevated in FSGS patients and correlated with disease activity. Detection of suPAR levels can assist in the diagnosis of FSGS, especially when renal biopsy is not possible, suPAR can be used as a supplementary diagnostic marker.

prognostic assessment
Elevated suPAR levels are associated with an increased risk of progression of FSGS to end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and can be used as an indicator to assess long-term prognosis of the disease. By monitoring suPAR levels, treatment options such as immunosuppressive therapy or plasma exchange can be adjusted.
